Welcome Members, Visitors and Friends!
It's a brand New Year (although we have yet to find out what brand it is), and more exciting presentations are coming your way. This month, Hewlet Packard will present their Blade Servers, ACP will hold another SwapMeet, and I will buy batteries for all the electronic paraphrenalia that I scored last month! And Now, The News...

Nogginfest 2004

What was Nogginfest?
Nogginfest 3.0 was a FREE OPENHOUSE, where you got to nash on great food (and we had great walnut-fudge brownies), schmooze with the many vendors, network with the most brilliant minds of the 21st century, or just spend a couple of pleasant hours away from the house while your significant other wrapped presents while trying to get the kids to do their homework. Did I mention it was FREE? There were lots of FREE give-away (promotional) items, and doorprizes. You can find pictures of the event on our website.

We had a dozen vendors, and about 300 members and guests were present to enjoy the food, conversation and assorted goodies. In the raffle, three X-Boxes were given away, as well as many other cool gifties.

Favorite 3rd Party Tools Department: Keyfinder

Do you ever have to re-partition, reformat, and reinstall Windows because the disk was too corrupted to continue? Do you ever do this for customers? AND have you had to do this when the CD-Jacket has been lost, so you CAN'T FIND THE CD-KEY? Anywhere? (Yes, I know some manufactures will put the tag somewhere on the outside of the case, but what about clones cobbled together by someone else?) Or maybe your customer lost it? (Right! Blame somebody else!) How do you get the CD-Key so you can restore the software legally? Run Magical Jelly Bean's Keyfinder.exe v1.41.

Keyfinder.exe is a tiny program that runs under Windows (9x - 2003) that locates the original CD-Key in the Registry, and displays it in a window. It also displays the CD-Key for MS Office. Ergo, you can boot to Windows, one last time, run keyfinder from a floppy or CD, grab this most important info (either copy by hand, or print to a file), then go ahead, delete the partition, and reinstall the whole mess.

Keyfinder.exe may be found at
www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml, along with a few other interesting tools.

>Submissions: If you any ideas for an article that you might like to write for this Newsletter, or about any third-party software that you would like to share with our members, please submit your article to the Editor, contact information below. Please use the Rich Text Format (.rtf file) for your article, and in the subject line of your email, put the word, Newsletter, so I don't accidently delete your email. (I tend to delete emails from people I don't know unless the subject line clearly indicates something important.)

See you at the meeting on Thursday, January 13, 2005, enjoy!
