And Now, The News...
Nogginfest 2.0 a Success!
Thursday, December 11, 2003
Our annual December open-house went rather well this year. We had a good turnout from the membership, many of whom renewed at the lower rate before the new year. We also had many new members join. The DoubleTree Hotel served a delectable variety of hors d'oeuvres to satisfy the palate. Microsoft and the other vendors provided a fine variety of prizes for the raffle, and a good time was had by all.

Does anybody else have any cool third-party tools they wish to share? What about some diagnostic and repair tools? Do you have something that will resurect a dead hard drive? Allow you to recover data? How about one that allows you to re-partition a drive on the fly, move XP to the second partition, install DOS on the first partition, and still get the whole thing to dual boot? Properly? What about one that allows you to remotely install a backdoor into any computer in the world, turning the crt into a high energy laser that could blast...naw...that's too much like hacking...an' besides, they'd all just go to led monitors, and then it wouldn't work anyway...(unless we could increase the radiant output of an led...somehow...)

Final Notes…
Jace Dicker of Stonefly Networks, on the benefits of iSCSI based Storage Area Network solutions (SANs) writes:
- "An IP Storage Area Network gives you the benefits of traditional fibre-channel SAN technology, but at a fraction of the cost.
- This is not NAS (Network Attached Storage) technology, but matches it's simplicity with vastly superior performance.
- iSCSI IP SAN's are ideal for e-mail servers, file-servers, document-imaging, and database-servers.
- Get rapid return on your investment by improving utilization and reducing the need for direct attached storage.
- Simplify the data backup and recovery process while providing a faster, more scalable, reliable backup, and recovery solution.
This technology is based on the new Internet protocol standard, iSCSI. This standard has broad industry support including Microsoft, Novell, Adaptec, Qlogic, IBM and Cisco. The fabric is Gigabit Ethernet, using the same switching technology that you are using now."
